The Civil engineering is basically the application of physical and scientific principles for solving the problems of the present society. The Department of Civil engineering which was functioning since 2011, in Sri Muthukumaran Institute of Technology creates outstanding engineers – with advanced engineering techniques. The department offers a full time B.E degree course in Civil Engineering. Apart from conducting academic programs, additional software based design courses, symposium, conferences, industrial visits, in-plant training, seminars, webinars and workshops are conducted for the students.
The Department of Civil Engineering in SMIT actively promotes curriculum development activity by updating the existing courses, developing new courses and preparing resource materials for teaching. The department has well equipped laboratories with modern instruments and equipments. The Department contributes to the interdisciplinary academic and research activity of the Institute. The Department of Civil Engineering provides an outstanding preparation for a career in government service, private consulting, industrial research, or academia.
Civil Engineering field deals with the planning, designing, construction & maintenance of buildings and various other structures. From huge dams to sky high buildings, from suspension bridges to offshore drilling platforms, every physical concrete structure comes under civil engineering. Civil engineers are involved in monitoring and guiding as well as devising and designing the building of roads, girders, bridges, airports, tunnels, dams, water & sewage systems and other structures. The department has well equipped laboratories with modern instruments and equipments.
