Computer Science and Engineering

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was started in the year 1996 with an intake of 60, with an objective of imparting quality education in the Computer Science and Engineering. Owing to the growing trend, the strength has been further increased to 90 and 120 in the year 2000 and 2009 respectively. The UG programme is accredited by NBA in 2004 and Permanent Affiliation granted by Anna University in the year 2010.

The department is also offering M.E Programme in Computer Science and Engineering from the year 2005. Anna University has granted Permanent Affiliation for PG programme in the year 2014. Teaching is the real strength of the department, supported by well qualified and experienced faculty members. The students are continuously assessed by assessment test and model examinations.

Vision

To advance the state of the art in computer science and engineering by working on cutting edge technologies, promoting quality research methodologies and filing enduring patents and to serve the local and the national community by creating awareness about IT related products and to impress upon then the importance of data management.

Mission

To produce highly qualified graduates through a rigorous curriculum of theory and application that develops the ability to solve problems, individually and in teams. To Create knowledge of fundamental principles and innovative technologies through research within the core areas of computer science and also in inter-disciplinary topics.

Objectives

B.E (CSE) graduates of SMIT are able to:

Educating and preparing students for careers and research in the field of computing and provide high-quality education in computer science and engineering principles, practices, and technologies
Encourage interdisciplinary studies and research, integrating computer science with other fields to solve complex problems.
Equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in their professional careers, including problem-solving, critical thinking, and effective communication.
Prepare students to engage in capstone projects that require them to apply their knowledge and skills to real-world problems and build strong relationships with alumni to create a network of support, mentorship, and opportunities for current students
