Sri Muthukumaran Institute of Technology (SMIT) is a Self financing Engineering college located in the Kundrathur main road at a distance of around 15 km from the Chennai city. The Institution is approved by AICTE, New Delhi & affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. The Institute has got recognition from UGC under 2(f) and 12(B) scheme.
The Institution is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with B+ grade in the year 2018 and participated in the National Institute of Ranking Framework (NIRF) process. Our college has also participated in the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE).
The Biomedical engineering is currently one of the fastest growing fields and the demand for graduates in this field is increasing all the time. The Biomedical Engineering program is well structured and has been designed with the aim of providing an excellent foundation in many areas of the current biomedical technology. The program offers courses in basic sciences, (mathematics, physics, chemistry), biochemistry, computer sciences, biomechanics, biomedical instrumentations, bioinformatics, modelling of biological systems, anatomy and physiology, biomedical imaging, biomedical signal processing, and artificial organs.
In addition, the program aims to teach engineering analysis, practice, and design capabilities, product development and develop the leadership skills of students so that they can take managerial positions and be leaders in their future careers. Opportunities are given to students to put their theory and practical knowledge into practice in real-life situations. Robotics & Automation is a branch of Engineering that involves the conception, design, manufacture, and operation of robots. The Robotics & Automation program is structured as an interdisciplinary program that includes applications of Electrical, Electronics, Computer science, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, control, Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning. Robotics & Automation Engineering uses control systems and information technologies to reduce the need for human work in the production of goods and services. In the scope of industrialization, automation is a step beyond mechanization.
Specialization with Robotics & Automation Engineering will enable students to serve the Industry requirement for implementation of new and smart technologies covering methods of synthesis, analysis & optimization of newer robots and mechanisms. Bachelor of Technology in Pharmaceutical Technology is an undergraduate course which involves the study of the origin, preparation, properties, effects, dosage and dispensation of medicines. The Department of Civil Engineering pulls out all stops to create outstanding engineers – with advanced teaching techniques and learning aids for undergraduate students. The Department of civil engineering has been functioning since 2011. The department offers a full time B.E degree course in Civil Engineering. Apart from conducting academic programs, additional computer courses, symposium, conferences, industrial visits, implant training seminars and workshops are conducted for the students.
Civil Engineering field deals with the planning, designing, construction & maintenance of buildings and various other structures. From huge dams to sky high buildings, from suspension bridges to offshore drilling platforms, every physical concrete structure comes under civil engineering. Civil engineers are involved in monitoring and guiding as well as devising and designing the building of roads, girders, bridges, airports, tunnels, dams, water & sewage systems and other structures. The department has well equipped laboratories with modern instruments and equipments.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was started in the year 1996 with an intake of 60, with an objective of imparting quality education in the Computer Science and Engineering. Owing to the growing trend, the strength has been further increased to 90 and 120 in the year 2000 and 2009 respectively. The UG programme is accredited by NBA in 2004 and Permanent Affiliation granted by Anna University in the year 2010.
The department is also offering M.E Programme in Computer Science and Engineering from the year 2005. Anna University has granted Permanent Affiliation for PG programme in the year 2014. And also Anna University has accredited the department as Centre for Research offering P.hd in Computer Science. Teaching is the real strength of the department, supported by well qualified and experienced faculty members. The students are continuously assessed by assessment test and model examinations.
The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering established in the year 1996, is taking all efforts to meet the objectives of achieving technical excellence in the core areas of Power, Energy and Control. Based on the infrastructure facilities and faculty strength, the department was accorded approval by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to Anna University, Chennai to offer UG programme (1996) and Post Graduate programme in Embedded System Technologies (2010), Power Systems Engineering (2011). It is recognized by Anna University, Chennai as one of the research centre to carry out research leading to Ph.D. degrees (2016).
